Well, tomorrow the bug guys come again to spray their poison around.  I've been fully expecting to find another bug this week, but, thankfully, none have shown up, not since June 5--if you remember that post.  I'm a big prophet of doom so I have to keep reminding myself to think of what is true--Philippians 4:6-8--not what might be.  I almost broke my pact with Peter tonight, the one about not reading bed bug stories on the internet.  Lured to the internet by my curiosity to identify the cause of a large weird something on my daughter's leg, probably a spider bite, I landed on a bed bug page--yikes!  Click on the return button fast.  Then I found myself staring at nightmare-inducing spider pictures.  Not much better.  I truly long for the day all my enemies in the animal kingdom either become my friends or are annihilated.  Spiders and bed bugs are just another reminder that this is not my final home! Until then it's time for us to exert dominion on those guys.  Bring on the exterminators.

  1. Karen...I remember the fear and dread of believing I had brought home the bed bugs from the ladies retreat. I had phantom bites and itching for weeks after the retreat. I only had 3 bite marks when I left the retreat and marks kept showing up for up to 3 weeks after the retreat (close to 60 some bites at last count).

I too, went to the internet to educate myself on the vermin...ugh! Dumb mistake. There are so many contradicting stories. The only reassuring thing I read was "bites can reveal themselves anywhere from instantly to 3 weeks."

Still, I finally went to "Hired Killers" in Greer - their Do it yourself store. We know one of the owners. He had be talk to the "specialist" on bed bugs in their office. She came me two products:

    1. Viper RTU
    2. PyGanic Dust

I tore my bedroom apart and dusted the bed frame, box spring and around the baseboards of the room with the PyGanic dust (it is poisonous, so I wore gloves and was sure not to place anywhere I would normally have skin contact).

Then on all surfaces I would touch - pillow, mattress, carpet, bags, etc...I used the Viper RTU. This is a floral smelling spray that will repel bed bugs (any many other insects) for up to 3 months. The BB specialist says she never stays in a hotel without taking this product with her. She sprays any bed, bedspred, end tables, dressers...etc in the hotel room when she first enters the room. Then goes for a walk around the hotel while the spray dries then she is sure she will not bring the vermin home with her. She also sprays her suitcase anytime before packing for a trip on an airplane... etc.

These two products are proven to work by others I've spoken to.

I must say...I NEVER saw a BB in my house. Just the phantom itching - waking up with a flashlight to "catch them in the act, biting me" was enough. It definitely does a number on your mind. I know I had about 3 weeks of sleepless nights.

Karen, I don't know if this is helpful. Feel free to call me if you need more information.

  2. Thanks, Cheryl! I will give this info to Peter. The fact that bites show up to three weeks later is indeed helpful and encouraging.
